Community & Safety Guidelines

Last updated: March 2026

The Streets exists to help people find connections, opportunities, services, housing, resources, and community support.

We want The Streets to be a place where newcomers and communities can participate with confidence, dignity, respect, and safety.

These Community & Safety Guidelines apply to everyone.

1. Treat people with respect

Users must communicate respectfully. We do not tolerate:

  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Bullying
  • Intimidation
  • Hate speech
  • Humiliation
  • Stalking
  • Personal attacks
  • Abusive conduct

2. No discrimination

The Streets serves people from diverse backgrounds. Users and Listers must comply with applicable human rights laws. Do not use the platform to unlawfully discriminate based on protected characteristics.

3. Protect your personal information

Never publicly post:

  • Passwords
  • Banking information
  • Credit card numbers
  • Government identification numbers
  • Security questions
  • Private medical information
  • Other unnecessary sensitive information

Be careful about sharing your address, telephone number, workplace, or other identifying information with strangers.

4. Be careful with money

Never send money simply because someone appears on The Streets. Before paying for housing, accommodation, services, products, or other opportunities:

  • Verify the person or organization
  • Confirm the property or service exists
  • Review the agreement
  • Confirm payment instructions
  • Be cautious of urgent payment demands
  • Report suspicious activity

5. Watch for scams

Warning signs may include:

  • Requests for payment before viewing a property
  • Requests for cryptocurrency or unusual payment methods
  • Offers that appear unrealistically cheap
  • Pressure to act immediately
  • Requests for passwords
  • Requests for unnecessary government documents
  • Fake employment opportunities
  • Requests to transfer money on someone else’s behalf
  • Refusal to communicate through reasonable channels

6. Housing safety

Before entering a housing agreement, users should verify:

  • The property
  • The person offering it
  • The rental terms
  • The amount required
  • The condition of the accommodation
  • Any applicable legal requirements

Do not assume that a listing is automatically verified simply because it appears on The Streets.

7. Meet safely

When meeting someone for the first time:

  • Consider meeting in a public place
  • Tell someone you trust where you are going
  • Avoid isolated locations
  • Use your own transportation where possible
  • Leave if you feel unsafe

8. Protect vulnerable people

Users must not exploit newcomers or vulnerable individuals through:

  • Fraud
  • Excessive or unlawful charges
  • Threats
  • Coercion
  • False promises
  • Forced services
  • Unlawful employment practices
  • Other abusive conduct

9. Report problems

Users are encouraged to report:

  • Fraud
  • Scams
  • Fake listings
  • Unsafe properties
  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Discrimination
  • Suspicious activity
  • Exploitation
  • Other serious violations

Report to safety@thestreethub.ca

Where there is an immediate threat to life or safety, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency service rather than relying solely on The Streets.

10. False reports

Reports should be made honestly and in good faith. Knowingly submitting false reports to harm another person may result in account restrictions.

11. Content standards

Do not post content that is:

  • Illegal
  • Fraudulent
  • Threatening
  • Abusive
  • Sexually exploitative
  • Hate-based
  • Defamatory
  • Invasive of privacy
  • Malicious
  • Designed to deceive users

12. Our response to safety concerns

Depending on the circumstances, iNorde may:

  • Review reports
  • Contact affected users
  • Remove content
  • Suspend listings
  • Restrict accounts
  • Permanently remove users
  • Preserve information where appropriate
  • Contact appropriate authorities where legally required or reasonably necessary

13. Community principle

The Streets is more than a marketplace. It is intended to be a community platform where newcomers can discover opportunities without being unnecessarily excluded because they are still establishing themselves in Canada.

We encourage users and Listers to act with: Respect. Honesty. Inclusion. Responsibility. Compassion.
